Roberts and Dyer Lead HiToms over Asheboro

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Des Roberts went 2-for-4 and Patrick Dyer threw seven strong innings as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms defeated the Asheboro Copperheads on Tuesday, 7-4.

The HiToms (5-5) started the scoring with Cody Brittain’s (so., USC Upstate) solo home run to left in the bottom of the second inning. One frame later with runners at second and third, Des Roberts (rs jr., UNC-Charlotte) drove a two-run single up the middle to give the HiToms a 3-0 lead. Asheboro (7-6) had a response, however, as catcher Austin Bossart hit a two-run homer to left field in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to one.

In the bottom of the fifth, Roberts struck again in a big way. With the score still 3-2, Roberts drove in both runners at the corners with a towering three-run home run to right field capping his five-RBI day.

High Point-Thomasville’s Pat Dyer (1-1, jr., Akron) worked around the Bossart home run allowing just those two runs on five hits with one walk and three punchouts. Laetten Galbraith (rs jr., Louisiana Tech) slammed the door in the ninth to earn his first save.

The HiToms wrap up their five-game homestand on Wednesday as the HiToms face the Martinsville Mustangs in a double-header at Finch Field. First pitch is at 6:00 P.M.
