Top of the Order Spurs HiToms to Win

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Alec Paradowski, Bradley Morton, and Des Roberts combined for six of the team’s eight hits Sunday as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms beat the Forest City Owls 3-2.

For the second straight game, Bradley Morton (jr., Appalachian State) smacked a solo home run in his first at-bat to give the HiToms (7-8) a 1-0 lead. Forest City (9-8) would later score a run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at one, but Des Roberts (rs jr., UNC-Charlotte) drilled a RBI double to right field to give the HiToms the lead back 2-1.

The Owls responded quickly, however, and tied the game in the top of the sixth with a Lucas Owens RBI single off of HiToms reliever Ben Mahar (jr., Valparaiso, 1-0). Forest City threatened to take the lead an inning later with runners on second and third with two outs, but Mahar struck out Owls shortstop Joey Hawkins to end the frame.

In the bottom of the seventh, HiToms’ centerfielder Cody Brittain (so., USC Upstate) singled with one out and stole second base. Paradowski then followed with the game-winning RBI single to center field to score Brittain.

The HiToms have Monday off before travelling to face the Gastonia Grizzlies on Tuesday at Sims Legion Park. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 6 P.M.
