HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s and women’s cross country schedule is set for 2014. The Panthers will open the season at Virginia Tech on Friday, Sept. 5 and run in the Big South Championship at Gardner-Webb on Nov. 1.
“I am excited to go to Virginia Tech for the first time this fall,” said HPU head men’s cross country coach Mike Esposito. “We are fortunate to be able to go to Virginia and compete against some of the best teams and see how we match up. The preview meet is a great opportunity to compete on the championship course.”
In preparation for the Big South Championship on Nov. 1, the Panthers will run in the conference preview at Gardner-Webb on Sept. 13. High Point will also compete at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 27 and the Blue Ridge Open on Oct. 17.
The HPU men’s cross country team placed second in the Big South Championship for the seventh time in a row in 2013 and took home the individual title for the second-straight year. Jeff LaCoste finished second at the championship last season and is back for the 2014 season.
High Point’s women’s cross country team placed fourth at the 2013 Big South Championship. Returning for the Panthers are Cozette Collin placed who placed 13th last year and Natalia Ocasio who finished 15th at the conference tournament.
