Bios on local coaches in tonight’s East-West All-Stars Basketball Games with Lee Reavis(NWG) and Shawyn Newton(SEG)

Lee Reavis(Northwest Guilford High School)
West men’s assistant coach is entering his 5th season as head coach at Northwest Guilford High where his record is 69-39 in 4 seasons and where he also serves as assistant athletic director…he has compiled a career record of 186-109 in 11 seasons and his teams have won 4 conference regular season titles, 3 conference tournament titles, and made 11 state playoff appearances…4 times named Conference Coach of the Year…previously served as JV head coach and assistant varsity coach at Northwest Guilford High as well as serving as a football coach at both Northwest Guilford Middle and High Schools…served as assistant varsity football coach, Head JV football coach, and assistant and head basketball coach at Glenn High…born at Whiteman’s Air Base, Missouri…1988 graduate of Northwest Guilford High where he was named All-Conference and was a 3-year letterman in basketball, football, and track, and where he was the recipient of the 1988 Millard Coble Award for Male Athlete of the Year…1993 graduate of Western Carolina University…Masters of Physical Education from N.C. A & T State University…says “I am very thankful and honored to be selected as a coach for the NCCA East-West All-Star Basketball Game this year. It is a very special accomplishment for NC High school players and coaches to be a part of this event. I have grown up watching this game here in Greensboro, and I am extremely excited to be selected to serve.”

Shawyn Newton(Southeast Guilford High School)
West women’s assistant coach is entering his first year as full time Athletic Director at Southeast Guilford High where as a head basketball coach he posted a career record of 248-110 in 14 seasons and his teams won 2 conference regular season titles, 2 conference tournament titles, and made 13 state playoff appearances… twice named Conference Coach of the Year…born in Lumberton, NC…1986 graduate of Red Springs High where he competed in both football and track and field…1993 graduate of North Carolina A & T State University…M.S. in Agriculture Education from NC A&T State University in 1994…says “It is an honor to represent Southeast Guilford High School as a member of the West coaching staff in this year’s all-star game. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with some of the best players and rub elbows with some of the best basketball coaches in the state. This will be my first appearance as a coach in this all-star game. I have been fortunate to have four girls from SE Guilford play in this event: Rachel Clark (2002), Hailey Hackett (2008), Paris Alston (2009), and Kenya Hailey (2013). With the support of my immediate family along with my Southeast family, which includes the Athletic Department, the National FFA Organization, faculty/staff, and the Southeast
community, it is my honor to serve these ladies in the 2014 NCCA East-West All-Star Game.”
