Talking to the coaches:Coach Wayne Jones(High Point Central)

Was on the phone this morning with High Point Central Bison head football coach Wayne Jones….Speed, speed, speed, that has always been a key to Coach Jones’ success and he looks for that speed and athleticism in all of his teams and players….This year’s team will be no different with QB Jamiel Mack at the helm and key speedy wideouts Charles Edmond and Tim Gorham returning….Also speed from Chavis Little in the backfield….Here are the 10 Questions for Wayne Jones and his Bison will open up this season, just like they did last year, against city-rival High Point Andrews….Lots of history amongst those two schools….

Our 10 questions today for Coach Jones:
1)Who will be your team leader(s)?
Quarterback Jamiel Mack….WR Charles Edmond and WR Tim Gorham…DE Tim Ward(now 6/6/210) and CB Malik Mcnatt…

2)How many years have you been coaching and is this your last stop?
This will be my 8th year as head coach at High Point Central and I have been coaching football overall for 23-24 years…First football job was at High Point Central….As for the last stop, you never know…You would like to be here as long as they will have you and the only other place I would think about would be if I could go home and finish out my career, back home in Georgia and that would have to be at the very end….

3)How many players on Varsity?
40 players on Varsity and 56 players on JV….The JV program is growing rapidly and on Varsity we are thin at spots in the line and at LB…

4)Who is the toughest team that you have ever coached against?
Wake Forest Rolesville….Very disciplined team and we faced them back in my early days as a head coach and they beat us pretty bad, but they were well-coached and they were a very good….

5)The coach you have learned the most from?
Gary Whitman(When he was head coach at High Point Central. Whitman also coached at Lexington, McMichael, maybe Asheboro, in Florida and other stops along the way.) I was an assistant on his staff here at High Point Central and he would try and get as many athletes on the field as possible…He pushed for the platoon system so you could always have fresh troops in the game and when your players weren’t in the game, you could be coaching them and making adjustments on the sidelines…..

6)Your Top offensive returning players?
Mack at QB…Edmond at WR….Gorham at WR….Little at RB….Most all of the OL is back with Olsen, Harrison, Peguese and others…Savon McCauley(SB)…

7)Top defensive returning players?
Ward at DE, McNatt at CB, Thomas Gorham, Kavin Logan(OLB), Jaquan Nelson(DL) and Amad Langham(DB)…..

8)Who will win the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference?
High Point Central

9)Your greatest satisfaction you receive from coaching?
You get to see kids have the opportunity to play in college and it is just as big to see them get to go to college….That is a good thing, if you can get them to college, then it is up to them to make things happen and you feel good to see them get that chance and then go on and succeed…

10)Among the Guilford County Schools from today or from the past, your program most resembles?
Dudley is the team we want to look like and we want to get to that level….Dudley is the top team right now in our area and we want to get there too…From the past, I would hope that we would resemble those Gary Whitman-coached High Point Central teams…

+++++We should also mention that Coach Jones looks to employ that new 4-2-5 defensive system this year for the Bison’ Black Watch ‘D’….+++++

  1. Just some corrections on name spellings.

    (CB) Malik Mcnnatt
    (SB) Savon McCauley
    (LB) Kavin Logan

Should be a fun season, the Piedmont-Triad conference is going to be very competitive.
