Bishop Tabbed As Greensboro College Pride Head Softball Coach

GREENSBORO, NC—Greensboro College Director of Athletics, John Trice, announced on Monday afternoon that Becky Bishop has been named the sixth head coach in Greensboro College softball history.

“Becky Bishop is a young, energetic, and passionate coach who possessed all the coaching and character qualities we look for at Greensboro College,” Trice said. “I am confident that she will continue to develop excellence in our softball program and throughout our Athletic Department.”

Bishop comes to Greensboro College from NAIA member Union College where she served as the Bulldogs head softball coach in 2013-14. Under the direction of Bishop, the Bulldog softball team saw a rise in team batting average, home run count, and most importantly team grade point average. Bishop also proved to be a successful coach on the club level while leading her team at an ASA Southern Gold National Championship as an assistant in 2010.

Bishop graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in August of 2011 before receiving her Master’s from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in December of 2013. During her time as an undergraduate student at Kentucky, Bishop was a two time selection to the Southeastern Conference All-Academic team (2007-2008) while being named an Academic All-American in 2007. Bishop’s best season with the Wildcats on the field came in 2007 when she batted.303 in 31 starts. She also ended the 2007 season with a .632 slugging percentage, which was one of the best marks in program history, putting her fourth on the all-time list in the category.

“I would like to thank Director of Athletics John Trice, Greensboro College and the Support Staff for this exciting opportunity. I am both honored and excited to become a member of the GC family, and the Greensboro community. I look forward to building the excellence of the Pride softball program in the USA South Conference and beyond!”

Bishop takes over a Pride softball team that finished up the 2014 season with a 20-19 overall record while going 12-10 in USA South Athletic Conference play.
