Elon’s Troutman Signs With Professional Basketball Team in Spain

ELON, N.C. – Former Elon University men’s basketball standout forward Lucas Troutman has signed a professional contract with Club Baloncesto Peñas Huesca in Huesca, Spain, the club announced on Aug. 16. Troutman reports to the club later this week.

“I’m excited to be a part of a great team and have the chance at an opportunity like this,” Troutman said. “This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid and it’s a blessing to be able to continue playing basketball as my profession now. My time at Elon was incredible and it gave me the opportunity to go places I’d never thought I’d go. The friendships and memories I was able to form with our guys and the community is very special to me.”

An All-Southern Conference, All-District and All-State honoree last season, Troutman started 31 games for the Phoenix, averaging 15.8 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. Troutman also tallied a team-best 58 blocks, bringing his career total to 213 – the most in Elon history and sixth in SoCon history. Troutman ended his career with 1,626 points, good for ninth all-time in school history. Troutman was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Feb. 25 and scored in double figures in 27 of his 31 games played in 2013-14. Troutman ended the year shooting 53 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.

“Lucas has worked very hard for an opportunity to play professional basketball,” said Elon head coach Matt Matheny. “Lucas is a special person and his signing confirms a reward for all of his hard work. We’re thrilled for him about this opportunity and wish him all the best moving forward.”

C.B. Peñas Huesca competes in the Liga Española de Baloncesto, the second league of the Spanish basketball league system. The club is led by head coach Quim Costa and team president José Manuel Rincón.

Troutman is the second senior from last year’s graduating class to sign a professional contract overseas. Teammate Ryley Beaumont recently signed with BK Nova Hut Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
