RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University men’s soccer team trio of seniors Nathan Dean and Jason Waterman along with junior James Brace were recognized on the 2014 Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association team as announced by the league on Monday, August 18. Both Brace and Waterman earned spots on the team while Dean received honorable mention by the league’s head coaches.
Waterman paced the squad with 31 total points on a team-best 12 goals and seven assists in 2013. The striker from Bloomington, Ind., was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection and earned the Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon Tournament. Waterman also tied the team-lead with three game-winners during the season and received second team laurels on the NSCAA All-South Region team. Waterman also earned Academic All-American honors from both the NSCAA and Capital One.
Brace earned second team All-SoCon last season after scoring 10 goals and contributing with four assists from his midfield position despite starting only seven matches. The Hartlepool, England, native led the team with a .323 shot percentage and also tallied three game-winners.
Dean played all but five minutes in between the posts last season and posted a GAA of 1.07 to go with 71 saves. The Liverpool, England, native also had six clean sheets on the year, moving to third all-time in school history with 16 in his career and earned first team All-SoCon. He also received SoCon Player of the Week accolades twice last season and was an NSCAA Academic All-American along with Waterman.
Elon will open up its preseason exhibition schedule on Tuesday, August 19, at South Carolina. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
