College Women’s Soccer News – Quakers Picked 10th in Preseason ODAC Poll

FOREST, Va. – Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s soccer coaches picked Guilford College 10th in their annual preseason poll released Wednesday. The Quakers collected 47 points, two behind ninth-place Eastern Mennonite University and eight in front of Randolph College for 11th place in the 13-team ranking. Four-time defending league champion Lynchburg College earned 10 of 11 first-place votes and the poll’s top spot by 11 points in front of Washington and Lee University.

Coach Michael Shenigo returns six starters among nine letterwinners from last season’s 1-18 team. He also recruited 12 new students to the team after his first campaign, many of whom should contribute right away. Junior forward Kelli Uresti is Guilford’s top returning scorer after collecting 13 points on five goals and three assists, all team highs. Classmate Natalia Petkov is a two-year starting defender who returns for her junior season.

The Quakers open the 2014 season Friday (Aug. 29) at North Carolina Wesleyan College at 4:30 p.m. in a nonconference match. Guilford’s home and ODAC opener is Sept. 13 versus Randolph-Macon College at 12:30 p.m.
