College Women’s Soccer Final – N.C. Wesleyan 2, Guilford 0

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Sarah Olsowski and Hannah Tolson scored less than five minutes apart early in the second half in North Carolina Wesleyan College’s 2-0 soccer win over visiting Guilford College Friday afternoon in both teams’ season opener.

The Battling Bishops outshot Guilford, 8-1, in the first half, but Quakers’ goalie Becca Banks made three of her five saves in the opening half to preserve a scoreless draw after 45 minutes.

Olsowski got the hosts on the scoreboard 29 seconds into the second half when she took a Logan Bill crossing pass and slid it past Banks to the right for the game’s first goal. Tolson tallied at 50:23 from 15 yards out off a Julia Rebellon pass to end the scoring.

Vanessa Batchelor earned the shutout with a second-half save of a Kelli Uresti shot. The Bishops ended up with a 15-3 edge in shots and had five of the game’s seven corner kicks.

Guilford visits William Peace University Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in a game played at the WakeMed Park Soccer Complex.
