College Volleyball Results – Guilford Wraps Up Day One at Averett Classic

DANVILLE, Va. – Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the 2014 season Saturday at the Averett Cougar Classic.

The Quakers (0-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to Emory & Henry in their opening contest. The Wasps (2-0) won, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-11, behind 15 kills, four service aces and seven digs by Tristen Pennington. Kennady Thompson added 11 kills on .435 hitting and Hannah Doss chipped in 12 kills and five digs. Maleah Neely set up 36 assists.

Guilford’s Kelsey Ruehling put away a team-high 14 kills and had six digs. Brittany DeCesare added seven kills and Maile Munro contributed 29 assists and 12 digs.

William Peace scored a 27-25, 25-19, 25-15 victory in Guilford’s final match of the day. Ruehling paced Guilford with nine kills on .308 hitting and Munro set up 23 assists.

Guilford meets Methodist (9:00 a.m.) and the host Cougars (3:00 p.m.) Sunday to conclude tournament play.
