Miami Marlins Extend Minor League Partnership with Grasshoppers

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Grasshoppers and Miami Marlins have extended their Player Development Contract through the end of the 2018 season, team officials announced today.

“The Miami Marlins couldn’t be more pleased to extend our partnership with the Greensboro Grasshoppers for another four seasons,” said Marlins director of player development, Brian Chattin. “It has been a tremendous place to call home for our players and staff for the past 12 years.”
Greensboro has been the Class A affiliate of the Marlins since the 2003 season, when the team was still known as the Bats. The Marlins are the only parent team the Grasshoppers have ever known.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Miami Marlins for another four years,” said Greensboro president and general manager, Donald Moore. “They have sent us some incredible talent in the last 12 years and we have a great working relationship with Marlins vice president, player development, Marty Scott; director player development, Brian Chattin and the rest of their staff.”

Greensboro will play game two of the SAL Divisional Championship Series this Friday at NewBridge Bank Park. The Grasshoppers won the Northern League first half with a 44-26 record and finished with an overall record of 87-53, marking the most wins in the franchise history.

“What Donald Moore and his staff have created in Greensboro simply can’t be found in minor league baseball. From the first-class facility to the outstanding fan base to the front office’s genuine kindness and support of our players and staff, Greensboro is an ideal player development partner. The Marlins truly appreciate our affiliation with the Greensboro Grasshoppers and look forward to another exciting four years together,” said Chattin.
