HPU Men’s Soccer’s Mamadee Nyepon Named Big South Attacking Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Mamadee Nyepon of the High Point University men’s soccer team was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Nyepon scored two goals and was named tournament MVP of the Dayton Flyers Classic.

Nyepon scored a goal in each of HPU’s games over the weekend as the Panthers went 1-0-1 against Dayton and Northern Kentucky to win the Dayton Flyers Classic. Nyepon scored the game-tying goal in both games for High Point, which beat Dayton, 2-1, in overtime and drew with Northern Kentucky, 1-1.

Against the Flyers, Nyepon scored in the 78th minute when he found the ball during a scrum in the box and beat the keeper with a strong shot into the net. The senior scored his second goal of the weekend with a finish from eight-yards out off a pass from freshman Avery Ryan in the 34th minute.

This is the first Big South Player of the Week honor of the season for Nyepon. He is also the first HPU player to be named Player of the Week this season.

High Point returns home this weekend to host the High Point Plaza Classic beginning on Friday, Sept. 12 at Vert Stadium. The team will welcome Incarnate Word, Western Illinois and fellow Big South program Radford for the weekend tournament. High Point will open up against Incarnate Word at 7 p.m.
