BIRMINGHAM, AL – Greensboro men’s soccer team (2-2) fell to Birmingham Southern (3-0-1) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead at the 13:30 mark, and extended the margin to 2-0 at 16:57 into the first half of play. The Pride cut into the lead when Morgan Stevenson scored off an assist by Robbie Barnes making it 2-1 at the 40:09 mark. Greensboro had two attempts in the final five minutes of the half but came up empty keeping the score 2-1 at halftime.
Birmingham Southern struck first out of the break at 65:06 pushing their lead back to 3-1. Greensboro found the back of the net ten minutes later at 75:21 when Craig Gage scored off an assist by Barnes for a 3-2 deficit. The Pride kept attacking over the final 15 minutes firing off five shots but falling short 3-2 in the match.
The Pride outshot their opponents 16-10 and 6-2 shots on goal. Greensboro also held an edge on corner kicks with 5-2. Gage led the way with four shots, three on frame. George Dimopoulos and Stevenson were close behind with two shots each.
Logan Rohde made two saves despite the loss in goal. Jonas Heidrich had five saves for the Panthers in goal.
The Pride returns to action tomorrow Sunday September 14th when they take on Oglethorpe. The game will conclude the BSC Invitational at Birmingham Southern. The kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
