Benton Earns Elon’s First CAA Football Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Following a 20-13 victory over Charlotte on Saturday night, Elon senior linebacker Odell Benton has earned the program’s first CAA Football Player of the Week.

Benton, a native of Jacksonville, N.C., had five solo tackles in the win over the 49ers. On Charlotte’s second play from scrimmage, Benton was credited with a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery. After the Phoenix had gained its seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Benton put a stop to a Charlotte drive by picking off a pass at the Elon 25-yard line. The pick was the second of Benton’s career.

Benton has totaled 10 total tackles, including two stops for a loss, in Elon’s three games this season.

The Phoenix will be back on the field this Saturday for a 7 p.m. game at Coastal Carolina. The game will be televised on the American Sports Network.
