Elon Volleyball Takes on Eagles Tuesday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team (4-10) wraps up a four-match road swing tomorrow, Sept. 23, when it travels to Durham, N.C., to take on North Carolina Central (0-15) in a 7 p.m. match in McDougald-McLendon Gym.

Looking Back
Elon has been plagued by injuries as of late but showed a lot fight and perseverance in a 3-1 loss in its last match at Wake Forest where every available player was in the lineup. Kris Harris and Sydney Busa had strong defensive performances last week with Harris averaging 1.27 blocks per set, along with a career-high nine blocks against the Demon Deacons, and Busa averaging 1.08 blocks per set. Prior to the Deacon Classic over the weekend, the Phoenix picked up a sweep over North Carolina A&T last Wednesday.

Elon vs. North Carolina Central
The Phoenix and the Eagles have played every year over the past seven years with the exception of 2008. In those matches, Elon is a perfect 7-0 with six of the wins coming in straight sets. The programs last met in the 2013 Elon Phoenix Classic where Harris led all players with 10 kills and hit .500. Ally Karle tallied five kills off eight attempts and five errors to hit .625.

Elon head coach Mary Tendler is in her 12th season with the Phoenix program. She enters Tuesday’s match with a 189-185 Elon and career record.

Looking Ahead
Elon plays its first Colonial Athletic Association match in school and program history on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. against Hofstra in Alumni Gym. The Phoenix then hosts Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m.
