GC Volleyball Runs Win Streak To Six With 3-0 Sweep of Panthers

GREENSBORO, NC — Greensboro College’s volleyball team returned to the court on Tuesday evening riding a five game winning streak as they welcomed the Panthers of Ferrum College (1-11, 0-4 USAS) to Mayo C. Harlow memorial court. In front of a lively crowd the Pride remained perfect in USA South Conference play, and ran their overall win streak to six games with a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers.

At the beginning of the first set of play, the two teams traded points back and forth until the Pride used a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. After Greensboro jumped out to the four point lead, the Panthers were able to keep the game close until the Pride used another 4-0 push to extend their lead out to 17-8. Ferrum College attempted to pull their way back into the set, but Greensboro held onto their lead wining the first set 25-16 to take a 1-0 in the match.

The Pride carried their momentum from the first into the second set of play. The Pride jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind the serve of Libero Holly Anders, before using a 6-2 run to extend their lead out to seven points at 10-3. Later in the set, the Pride strung together six straight points extending their lead out to 20-10. The Panthers pulled within 24-17, but the Pride took the set 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead into the match.

After taking the 2-0 lead in the match, Greensboro College came out strong in the third set with eight straight point taking the 8-0 lead before the Panthers were able to get on the board. Over the course of the remainder of the third set, Greensboro College pulled away for the 25-13 victory and the match 3-0.

Greensboro College was led by Liz Widenhouse with 12 kills, while freshman Shayla Moss tallied 10 kills. Widenhouse also led the Pride in digs with 12 with Dallas Hasty totaling nine digs.

Darrian Bolt passed for a team high 17 assists while Bari Tressler passed for 15.

With the win, Greensboro College moves their overall record to 10-4 and remains a perfect 4-0 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride volleyball team will return to action on Thursday night at 7:00 PM when they travel just down interstate 40 to take on the Spirits of Salem College. Greensboro College and the Spirits met in Greensboro just three weeks ago with the Pride coming away with the 3-2 victory.
