College Men’s Soccer Final – Hampden-Sydney 3, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College dropped a wet and windy Wednesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Hampden-Sydney College, 3-1.

The Tigers jumped on the board first in the fifth minute when Ryan Turner received a right-side pass from James Lawrence and booted the ball in the net from ten yards out. Lawrence would earn his second assist on the night in the 23rd minute when he fed a through-ball up the middle to Robert Kerby to increase the Tiger lead, 2-0. Hampden-Sydney added to their lead in the second half when Liam Hogan played a deflection off the top of the 18-yard box into the net in the 75th minute for the Tigers’ final goal.

The Quakers answered in the 86th minute when Christian Torres (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) booted a deflected ball inside the six-yard box into the net to cut into the Hampden-Sydney lead.

Hampden-Sydney held the edge on shots, 12-7, while also picking up the advantage on corner kicks, 7-2.

Marko Mandalinic stopped four shots in net for the Quakers. Cameron McFarlane made three saves in net for the Tigers.

The Quakers (3-6, 2-1 ODAC) return to action Saturday, hosting Virginia Wesleyan College for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
