Jack Sides leads HPU Men’s Golf at Cardinal Invitaional

• High Point is tied for 11th place after 36 holes at the Cardinal Invitational.
• Sophomore Jack Sides is tied for 15th in the individual standings.
• The Panthers will play the final 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m.

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The High Point University men’s golf team finished the first day of the Cardinal Invitational tied for 11th place out of 16 teams. Sophomore Jack Sides posted HPU’s top score with a 146, tied for 15th at the even hosted by Louisville.

Sides had a strong second round with a one-under par 71 to move in to a tie for 15th in the individual standings. The sophomore had started the day with a 75 in the opening round to finish with a 146.

Freshman Emile Menard also improved from round one to round two on Monday. He shot a 76 in his first collegiate round and shaved off three strokes for a 73 in the afternoon to finished tied for 30th with a 149.

Senior LJ Georgetti carded HPU’s top score in the first round with a 73. He finished the day with a 151 which put him in 40th place. Junior McKay Tye (75-78-153) and redshirt-freshman AJ Hopkins (78-78-156) rounded out scores for the Panthers.

Louisiana-Monroe edged host-team Louisville for the team lead with a 580. The Cardinals are one stroke back with a 581. Eastern Kentucky’s Patric Sundlof and Depaul’s Jan Juelicher are tied for the individual lead with a four-under 140.

The final round will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
