Friday Night Finish:The Conference Wars have begun and more key Conference Games coming to a battlefield near you next week

A light schedule this evening, but it still turned out to be a crazy night with several upsets brewing in around our area/county…

Right about now(11:19pm) everyone is watching the Friday Night Football Highlights Shows, but here we sit breaking it all down like nobody else’s business….

Where do we start tonight???

The Conference Wars have started in earnest and more on the way next week…The Conference Wars and the Conference Store with Greg Tuza was it over off of West Wendover, does anybody remember those days of The Conference Store?

Somebody may be asking tonight, “does anybody remember the days back when Northern Guilford was unbeaten in the regular season?”

We only have two Unbeatens left in Guilford County and those are Southern Guilford at (7-0) and Dudley at (5-0)….The last time I remember Northern Guilford losing on the field in the regular season was back in 2011, when the Nighthawks lost to the Page Pirates, the year Page won the 4-AA Title with James Summers, Drew Rogers, Blake Hickman, Brian Spain, Christian Cranford and company…

Northern did drop those two forfeiture games last year in the regular season, with one of those going to Burlington Williams and the other to Northwest Guilford…I remember the loss to Western Alamance in the last game of the regular season back around 2010….

The final tonight was 32-28 from the reports we received….

We don’t need to be throwing all of our focus on a team losing game, but you know what, sometimes a loss can be good for you….Makes work harder when you go back to the drawing board the following week…

Big win for Northeast Guilford tonight….They are always big when you get your first win of the season and that should give all of those Ram players a big boost as they head out to practice on Monday afternoon…

Eastern Guilford grabbed a very large Homecoming Game win at Tommy Grayson Stadium on this Friday and say it was huge, but there will some huge wins coming down the road for the EG Wildcats….Long runs, big pass plays and solid efforts from Jarius Morehead, Terrell Pickett, Addison Benton, Yrral Davis and others were rolling on offense tonight and we need to give a big shout out to all of the members of the Eastern Guilford offensive and defensive lines…Those guys got the job done tonight and good kids like Jacob Finerty, Lundy, Porter, Belcher, Ashley, Clapp, Shields, Beltran, Arias, Cole, Lewis, Bryant, Johnson and more were all over that field tonight…Barr, Velasco, Walker and whole bunch of Wildcats were happy the final horn sounded tonight at Tommy Grayson Field….

There will be a Conference Battle going on now in the Mid-State 3-A…Eastern Alamance and Eastern Guilford are on top with no losses, while Northern Guilford and Western Alamance have one loss each….You have to like the way these battles are shaping up….Eastern Guilford at Burlington Williams next week and then back home against Northern Guilford in two weeks…

The Metro 4-A tussles do not begin for another week and it is hard to believe that some of our teams have already played four Conference games, but yet teams were off tonight and don’t play their first Conference game until next Friday night…..While the rest of us were working, many of our teams were taking it easy on this night….Not too much they could scout since almost all of the Metro 4-A clubs and the ones from the Piedmont Triad 4-A were all off tonight….

The Smith Golden Eagles did get a game in on the road at Southern Vance and Big Ben came back with the 35-6 win….Ben L. Smith and the “L” does not stand for loss tonight, it represents leaders and they found some down off of 85 North this evening….Good job Smith and now all you have to do is get ready for the Dudley Panthers, with Ben L.(Smith) hosting James B.(Dudley) next Friday night…..Do most fans still feel good about this game and look at it as a major community event?????

Ragsdale and Northwest Guilford, both at (4-2) will lock it up next Friday and NWG has a large handful of former Ragsdale coaches on their Viking staff and that won’t be easy for the NWG coaches to go against their former Tiger leader, Coach Tommy Norwood….

How about those Southern Guilford men tonight…What was that final, 69-26 over Western Guilford??? That game was close until right after the kickoff and Reggie Gallaspy and his mates went to work….I got a text from Ron ‘Bug’ Harris that said Reggie was at around 150 yards and 4 TD’s early in the second quarter….Need more time to get the totals, but if you are Southern in 2014, it is good thing to be going South…

Southeast Guilford(5-1) won their game on Thursday night and did we get a final in here on their JV team sporting just one loss and how they came together going up against Salisbury tonight???? The Page Pirates will be at Southeast Guilford next Friday night and Grimsley will meet Southern Alamance and when is Malik Stimpson due back in there for Grimsley??? Is he on his way back?

High Point Christian lost tonight/Friday for the first time this season and do you think the Cougars might have been a little overrated or did they just run into a better private school team….Don’t know a whole about that circuit, but I can tell that the Charlotte Christian bunch is a good group, that Bo Hines, from Charlotte Christian, has really been showing something this season in Raleigh, for the N.C. State Wolfpack….

We’ve got to stick to high school football talk and it is now approaching 12:30am and as it gets later, the lines get less straighter on these pages…Things are starting to run sideways as the morning moves on….

Who have we left out here????

We hit Northern, Northeast, Eastern, Southern, Western, Smith, Southeast Guilford, High Point Christian and did we have more teams in action???

Southern Guilford coach Darryl Brown had nothing but praise for his players after their game.
(Always a class act, Coach Darryl Brown.)

“I was proud of how hard we played,” Brown said. “I feel like we’re making the right steps to get better each week. Our kids are playing hard and working hard.”

More info is on the way….

  1. Hpca played terrible in first half, lots of penalties, stopped the run but the passing game and a pick 6 did them in. Second half they shut metrolina out offensively except for fumble recovery in end zone. Could be a blessing in disguise as they make a run for a title.

  2. Made that correction on SEG JV and props to SWG as they continue on with their Unbeaten season…

Now only two Varsity unbeatens with Duldey and Southern Guilford and looks to still a few Unbeaten JV’s with Dudley, Page, Southwest Guilford and High Point Central coming to mind quickly….

    Let us know….

  3. The last time Northen lost on the field they lost to Dudley. Page beat them the first game of the year that season. Northern opened the year 0-2. I believe they won the state title that year and Page and Hillside did too.

  4. I stand corrected Page was the last team to beat Northern on the field. Northern came into Dudley and put a good whoopin on us that year.

  5. Yeah one good slapping gets you two! By the way, when you going to slap someone again? Been along time huh!?
