College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 1, Randolph 1 (2 OT)

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Johnny Gofreddi’s second-half goal secured Guilford College’s Saturday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) draw with Randolph College, 1-1.

Randolph’s El Hadji Beye put Randolph on the board first in the 40th minute on a lofted shot from 30 yards out. The half concluded with the Quakers being forced to play a man down for the conclusion of the contest due to a red card.

In spite of being a man down, Colin Dillon found Gofreddi in the box on a low 62nd minute free kick to even the score. The second frame featured 25 fouls between both teams with the WildCats outshooting the Quakers, 11-5, in the final period of regulation.

Both teams dualed in the first overtime, exchanging two breakaways a piece that narrowly missed the net. Randolph produced a key offensive opportunity in the second OT, where Sam Griffith penetrated deep into the Guilford 18-yard box and squirted a ball through before Angel Valencia (Greensboro, N.C./Westchester Country Day) booted the ball at the goal line to prevent a game-winning goal.

The WildCats outshot the Quakers, 26-9, and held the edge on corner kicks, 7-2. Both teams combined for 41 fouls in a very physical contest that featured six yellow cards and two direct red cards.

Marko Mandalinic made seven saves in net for the Quakers. Randolph’s C.J. Stevens stopped five shots.

The Quakers (4-7-1, 3-1-1 ODAC) return to action Wednesday, hosting Lynchburg College at 7 p.m. in an ODAC matchup.
