Elon’s Vargas Wins Third CAA Cross Country Weekly Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s cross country senior Luis Vargas was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Runner of the Week for the third time this season as announced by the league on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

This is the sixth career weekly award for Vargas after the Angier, N.C., native won the men’s five-mile gold race last Friday, Oct. 3, at the 59th annual Notre Dame Invitational. Vargas clocked in a time of 23:30.9 in the race to earn his third consecutive first-place finish of the season and the fourth overall in his career.

Vargas was also selected as the CAA Runner of the Week on Sept. 16 and Sept. 23.

Select members of the Phoenix are scheduled to race again on the Oct. 18 at the NCAA Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
