HPU Women’s Golf Sits In 13th After Day One At The Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

• High Point shot 312-304 in the first two rounds of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate to finish in 13th with a score of 616.
• Sophomore Sarah Bae ended the day was HPU’s top finisher on the day with a total score of 150 (74-76).
• Junior Tan Cheeranont matched Bae for the low round of the day with a 74 in the second round.

GREENVILLE. N.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team finished the first day of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in 13th place out of 18 teams with a two-round combined score of 616. The Panthers opened with a round of 312 but bounced back with a 304 in the second round.

“Overall we shot ourselves in the foot, especially in the first round,” head coach Vici Pate Flesher said. “We played better in the second round and I am looking forward to seeing us perform well in the third round. We are still working on executing course management strategy and we need to do a better job of that moving forward if we want to perform at the level I know we are capable of.”

Sophomore Sarah Bae carded a two-over 74 in the first round and a four-over 76 in the second round to end the day tied for 18th with a 36-hole score of 150. Junior Tan Cheeranont shot 79 in the first round but matched Bae for the low HPU round on her second 18 with a 74 to finish tied for 35th with a two-round total of 153.

Junior Casey Ward finished in a tie for 56th with a total score of 156 (79-77) and freshman Cayla Smith finished tied for 67th with a two-round score of 158 (80-78). Senior Greer Bennett ended the first day tied for 79th with a total score of 161 (84-77).

GRU Augusta leads the team standings with a combined score of 588 (297-291) at the end of the first day at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Kennesaw State finished in second with a score of 594 and Georgia State ended in third with a score of 597. Old Dominion (600) and host East Carolina (602) round out the top five.

Josefine Nyquist of GRU Augusta and Jennifer Dilger of Winthrop are tied for the lead in the individual standings after two rounds with matching scores of 149. Nyquist shot 71-78 on the day while Dilger shot 69-74. The pair hold a one-stroke lead on Maggie Simmermache of Old Dominion (72-72).

The third and final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate will take place at the Greenville Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
