College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Climbs to 12th at Golfweek Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 306 in Monday’s second round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Course.

The Quakers moved up a spot into 12th place in the 18-team field, 32 strokes behind leader University of Texas at Tyler, which carded a four-over-par 288 Monday. With a 36-hole 575, the Patriots hold a one-shot lead over Methodist University. The Monarchs shot Monday’s low round (286).

Methodist’s Mason Stutler and Texas-Tyler’s George Toone both fired three-under-par 68 Monday on the par-71, 6,561-yard course. The pair has matching scores of 138 and shares first place in the 90-man field, one shot ahead of Oglethorpe University senior Anthony Maccaglia (71-68-139).

Guilford senior Drew Thompson shot even-par 71 and climbed into a share of 28th place on the individual leaderboard at 78-71-149. Rookie Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) carded a 77, one stroke less than his opening round, and sits 62nd at 155. Guilford’s Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) struggled to a 79 after a 72 on Sunday, which dropped him from 15th into 43rd at 151.

The 54-hole tournament, which features 15 teams ranked in the Oct. 3 Golf Coaches Association of America Division III Coaches ‘Poll, concludes with Tuesday’s third and final round.
