ELON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team welcomes Towson to Alumni Gym on Thursday, Oct. 16, for its first of three matches in a four-day span. The match between the Phoenix (5-16, 0-5 CAA) and the Tigers (17-3, 4-2 CAA) is set for 7 p.m.

Pink Match
Thursday marks Elon’s annual Pink Match for breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink and the team will recognize several breast cancer survivors prior to the match. Elon volleyball is proud to support and be a part of the effort to find a cure for the disease.

Looking Back
The Phoenix found itself down after one set in its last match against UNC Wilmington on Saturday but rallied to even the match by claiming the second set. The Seahawks went on to take the win, 3-1, but Elon fought hard throughout the match. Ally Karle led the team with 10 kills, while Catherine Head continued her strong play on defense with five blocks. Head is averaging 1.33 blocks per set this season in conference play and ranks second in the league.

Elon vs. Towson
The Phoenix and the Tigers have met only once previously. Elon played in the Towson Invitational 10 years ago in Towson, Md. The Tigers won the match, 3-0, and holds the series advantage, 1-0.

Head Coach Mary Tendler
Elon head coach Mary Tendler is in her 12th season with the Phoenix program. She enters Saturday’s match with a 190-191 Elon and career record. Tendler is 10 wins away from reaching the century mark in career wins.

Looking Ahead
The Phoenix continues its home stand with two matches this weekend in Alumni Gym. Elon hosts Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. followed by College of Charleston on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m.
