Friday Night Finish:A Classic Down in Gibsonville

(A good one here too with Mallard Creek 29, Charlotte Vance 22.)

A great night for high school football with the weather at near perfect conditions and the games we had, well WOW!, as one fan was heard to say….

Our game at GreensboroSports Radio was a 22-21 nail-biter down in Gibsonville with Northern Guilford coming back from being down 21-7 in the second half to win the game with a two-point conversion run….

That two-point conversion run might be the focus of some consternation for a few days and it sure will be a hot topic around the restaurants, barber shops and fitness centers for a day or two….

Another fan said this game was phenomenal and to me it was a ‘Classic’ due the nature of how close this game was….It had plenty of turnovers with interceptions(two by NG starter Cam Harris) and there were a number of fumbles and most were recovered by the team that put the ball on the ground, but not all of them….

You had big plays with a 91-yard TD run by Eastern Guilford QB Jarius Morehead and long pass play of 77 yards on the toss from Cam Harris to Mook Reynolds…

This game had lot for the fans to absorb and that they did…I thought we might be going to Overtime, but then came the penalty on EG and NG got the two-point conversion to seal up their victory…EG still had time to pull out the game with over 2 minutes left when NG went on top…..But it was not to be and Eastern still can not get that elusive win over Northern Guilford, and NG has yet to have two losses in the regular season in the Mid-State 3-A conference, but let me tell you something friend/neighbor, it almost happened tonight in Gibsonville…EG was that close and NG was looking loss #2 in the Mid-State in the face….

A classic and our thanks go out to Eastern Guilford Athletic Director Randall Hackett for having us in there at EG, in the Press Box tonight so we could bring that game to GreensboroSports Radio….Thanks to all of the Eastern Guilford boosters, the Wildcats do a great job and they took good care of us tonight….

Northern found a way to win tonight and Cam Harris, Mook Reynolds, C.J. Freeman and Tucker Hord were all up to the task tonight….Good NG defense on the last possession by Eastern and the Nighthawks stepped when they had to in this one….NG just a little bit more of that big game experience and it paid off for the ‘Hawks in their win over the ‘Cats tonight….

How about those other contests????

Is that win by Northwest Guilford over High Point Central impressive or what??? Just how did NWG go into High Point and do that to Jamiel Mack and the Bison tonight??? That is real big, let me tell that one again, NWG over HP Central and that is REAL BIG….I need to look up some of the details on this one and now NWG sits at (2-0) and HP Central falls to (0-2) and NWG must keep its sights set on East Forsyth…Give me some NWG fast facts fast…..

Southern Guilford is now for REAL and the deal is now at (9-0)…I’m hearing it was 34-27 Storm tonight and that is HUGE for the SG Storm and they are UNBEATEN with just two regular games to go and one of those will be against Ledford right???? How many for Reggie tonight?

Southeast Guilford is not for lovers, SEG is for fighters and those Falcons fought back after being down BIG to Smith tonight and you have to give credit to SEG QB Bubba Craven, one of the top leaders in the county for leading his team back in the game tonight…Craven needs to be on that All-County team at the end of the year/season, but will he??? Smith put forth what I would think was the Golden Eagles best effort of the season….

Page just rolled all over Grimsley and we all thought that this might turn out to be the case, since Page had been exploding on offense all season long and Grimsley is real young and the youth got served notice tonight when the Pirates got their chance to run wild over the Whirlies and I’m just guessing that Page senior QB Dominick Britt had a real big game tonight in this contest…

Who was the man/men for the Dudley Panthers tonight??? Heard they won big, but do not have any names and not seen any names yet, but I can give three that probably had close to three touchdowns each and that would be Darius Graves, Connell Young and Hendon Hooker….How did these kids do this evening….

Who won, Randleman or High Point Andrews???

This is the fastest typing I have ever done and I will be taking a 10 minute break here and will be back as soon as I finish my salad and change locals….

Thanks again to the good folks at Eastern Guilford for having us down there tonight for that “Classic Contest” involving the Wildcats and the Nighthawks and we will be back here in about 10-15 minutes or so, to see if we have any reaction to these games and to our game notes on the ‘Friday Night Finish’….

How did Ragsdale come by their offense tonight, was it Cobb, Quick, Parker, Harris or others???

*****It looked like the Eastern Guilford Wildcats were wearing Gibsonville Yellow Jacket throwback jerseys/uniforms tonight, were they???*****

+++++There is still some confusion on what happened on that two-point conversion play and lets’s take your takes on that one till the sun comes up.++++++

  1. Andy, to answer your question, it was everybody for Ragsdale!! The waterboy, Brandon, even pitched in! Great win for Tigers!

  2. Would that be Brandon Boykin..Have heard good things about that kid and he is one of the best Middle schoolers around….

But, I may be thinking about the ball boy instead of the waterboy….
