Elon’s Vargas Claims Fourth CAA Weekly Cross Country Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Luis Vargas of the Elon University men’s cross country team earned his fourth Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Runner of the Week honor on Tuesday, Oct. 21, as released by the league office.

Vargas won his fourth consecutive race of the season on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. The Angier, N.C., native ran a time of 24:20.3 in the men’s 8K white run – just four seconds off his school and personal record. Vargas’ time was also the eighth-fastest performance between all the men’s races at a meet featuring among top teams and individuals in the nation.

The weekly accolade was the seventh overall for Vargas in his career and his fifth overall first-place finish at Elon.

Vargas and the Phoenix men’s and women’s cross country teams will next compete at the CAA championships on Nov. 1, in Boston, Mass.
