Elon Women’s Golf Begin Final Fall Event

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – After nearly two weeks away from competition, the Elon women’s golf team returned to the links for the first round of the 2014 Palmetto Intercollegiate on Sunday. The Phoenix carded a 304 to tie for 10th in the 20-team field following 18 holes.

Pacing the maroon and gold on Sunday was Heather Munro. Munro shot a one-over par 73 and is tied for 14th out of 104 players. She posted four birdies over her first round of action.

One stroke back in a tie for 23rd was Sunna Vidisdottir. Vidisdottir tallied 15 pars over her first 18 holes on her way to the 74.

After shooting a 78, Kelsey Badmaev sits in a tie for 56th. She is followed by Emily Brooks who carded a 79, including 14 pars, to tie for 66th.

Finally, Heather Dockrill’s 87 has her tied for 99th with two rounds to play.

A pair of players, GRU Augusta’s Eunice Yi and Coastal Carolina’s Lena Schaeffner, leads the individual field after posting rounds of 68 on Sunday.

Coastal Carolina also leads the team standings with a six-under 282. The field includes five of the top 50 teams in the nation – #30 Furman (2nd, 285), #25 GRU Augusta (T-3rd, 288), #39 Kansas (T-3rd, 288), #42 Kansas State (5th, 298) and #31 Campbell (T-13th, 305).
