High School Basketball Practice begins for our public schools today:Kea, Eaves and Watson have all moved on

No more Paris Kea from Page High School(now a Vanderbilt Commodore), no Anthony Eaves from Page High School(now playing ball at Ballard High in Louisville, Kentucky), and JJ Watson(Smith High School) has moved back to California, but with the start of public school basketball practice today, there ought to be enough talent left to go around….

The Page boys will still have Ty Graves, Xavier Hill-Mais, Jalen Seegars and Diondre Overton with Overton still in football practice….The Smith boys will miss Watson and there is still an outside shot, that we might see JJ “No Fear” Watson return according to Coach Waddell, but Smith will be OK, they will just need to get their football boys into basketball…Dudley will face the same problem with Hendon Hooker and Brion Seagraves and other Panthers still riding the (8-0) start by Dudley on the football field and there will be plenty of time to get acclimated to basektball…Dudley did lose Khalil Vance and he was a big power player on the inside, but Dudley returns their point guard(Beejay Pittman), who was one of the most improved players in our area last season….Grimsley, just like Smith with Myles White and others and Dudley with Hooker, Seagraves and others will also have to wait on Bruce Davis, who figures to be one of the Whirlies top scorers this season……

Northwest will need to wait on Kevin Henry, but it will be worth the wait, as the Vikings will have one of the deepest backcourts in the state this season and they will be seasoned at that those guard spots, as much as any team in the state…

The NWG girls might be ready to make a very deep run in the playoffs this season with a ton of juniors amongst the Viking ladies with Barber, Moore, Tucker, Neas, Pointer and Wallace all juniors and Newman would be the only senior among the top 7…..Southwest Guilford was very strong in ladies basketball last year too and they should be a very credible team again in 2014/2015 and the Page Pirates lost Kea, but they return Bailey Kargo from injury and Campbell Kargo was coming off an injury from this past Summer….

The Western Guilford boys were very strong last year and they look to be tough again this season, as do the Eastern Guilford with senior Quayson Williams one of the best guards in the state…

More to talk about later on, but for now, let the whistle blow and practice begin…..

*****T.J. Parker and Tevin Quick will also help make the Ragsdale boys team a contender, after they have finished up their football duties…The Wesleyan boys with Harry Giles, Kwe Parker, Jalen Johnson, the Childress(Brandon ?) kid and more, will be almost unstoppable on the Private School Boys scene and the Trojans’ Giles is ranked the #3 overall junior in the Nation…Northside Christian(loaded again this year) were last years NCISAA 2-A Champs and WES has won back-to-back titles at the 3-A level…*****
