BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Freshman Ebe Kudolo scored two goals to lift the High Point University men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win on the road at Campbell in Buies Creek, North Carolina on Wednesday night. The goals were the first of the season for Kudolo.

“I am really pleased with the team’s performance and being able to walk away with three road points,” head coach Dustin Fonder said. “I thought we were on top of the game for large spells but credit to Campbell who really fought and were dangerous in spots. We need to do a better job of finishing a game off. When we were up 2-0 we had a chance to get a third and we weren’t able to which allowed them to get one back late and make it a tight game down the stretch.”

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on Kudolo’s first goal of the night. Redshirt-junior Cameron Foster won the ball in the midfield with a sliding tackle, finding Kudolo. The freshman then ran a give-and-go with Punyed before unleashing a shot from the top of the box into the lower left corner of the goal.

High Point had a chance to double its lead from the spot in the 61st minute when senior Mamadee Nyepon was taken down in the box to earn a penalty kick. The senior stepped to the spot and took a shot to the lower right corner, but Campbell’s Matthew Mozynski stopped the effort with a diving save.

Kudolo found the back of the net for the second time on the night with a hard shot from outside the box in the 75th minute. Junior Ben Burdon cut in from the right flank and dropped a pass off to Kudolo who struck the ball into the top right corner of goal on his first touch.

Campbell’s Tunji Osifeso got a goal back for the Camels in the 86th minute. The midfielder received the ball at the end of a combination of passes and beat HPU keeper Kody Palmer one-on-one for the goal.

High Point finished the game with 25 shots, including 15 on goal, while holding Campbell to nine shots and just one on frame. Nyepon had five shots on target and both Kudolo and freshman Irvin Ramirez had three on frame.

Palmer earned the win in goal for High Point, improving to 5-4-1 on the season. Mozynski made nine saves in a losing effort, dropping to 5-9-0 on the season.

The win for High Point moves the Panthers to 8-6-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the Big South. HPU moves into third in the Big South with three games to play. Campbell drops to 5-9-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the Big South.

High Point returns home for its final regular season game of at Vert Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 2, when the Panthers will host Gardner-Webb. The contest against the Runnin’ Bulldogs is the final home game for HPU seniors Matt Donald, Sonny Mukungu and Mamadee Nyepon. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
