Elon Volleyball Faces Cougars Saturday in Charleston

ELON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team makes its first trip to College of Charleston as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday, Nov. 8, for a 5 p.m. match in Charleston, S.C.

Looking Back
The Phoenix struggled against the defense of UNC Wilmington in its match on Wednesday. The Seahawks claimed a 3-0 win after tallying 14.5 blocks and hitting .292. Kayla Agae led the maroon and gold with 10 kills and also recorded seven digs. Morgan Maner tallied a match-high 10 digs, while Ana Nicksic and Sydel Curry finished with 14 and 10 assists, respectively.

Scouting the Cougars
CofC is 10-2 in conference play thus far this season and is tied for first in the league. When the Phoenix hosted the Cougars three weeks ago in Alumni Gym, CofC took a 3-0 win. Outside hitter Melissa Morello claimed offensive player of the week honors this past week after recording 39 kills and back-to-back double-doubles in the team’s two previous matches. The Cougars lead the league in digs, averaging 17.63 per set with the help of 4.9/set by Andi Zbojniewicz. In conference play, CofC is holding opponents to a .159 hitting percentage, which is the lowest in the league.

Head Coach Mary Tendler
Elon head coach Mary Tendler is in her 12th season with the Phoenix program. She enters Saturday’s match with a 191-198 Elon and career record. Tendler is nine wins away from reaching the century mark in career wins.

Looking Ahead
Elon closes out the regular season next weekend with its final two matches. The Phoenix plays at Delaware on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. before taking on Towson on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.
