SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Guilford College’s women’s swimmers turned in some personal-best times Saturday in a triangular meet with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals Sweet Briar College and Emory & Henry College. The host Vixens posted a 158-35 win over Guilford and the Wasps scored a 167-22 decision.
Guilford freshman Isabel Gutierrez swam two of five-fastest times in school history in two separate events. She took fourth in the 200-meter freestyle, the Quakers’ best finish of the day, in a time of 2:29.75, which rates as the third-fastest time in school history. The time also represents the best by a Guilford swimmer since 2009. Gutierrez placed sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:22.10, the fourth-best mark in school history.
Senior Morgan McKinnon, who last week completed her season as a member of Guilford’s volleyball team, had a fifth-place time of 1:32.94 in the 100 breaststroke, a five-second improvement over her time in the same meet in 2013. McKinnon’s 100 freestyle mark of 1:15.90 also placed fifth and was three seconds faster than her time in the same meet in 2013.
Coach Emily Wilson’s Quakers (0-5, 0-4 ODAC) compete Nov. 22 in a triangular meet with Greensboro College at Ferrum College.
