College Men’s Basketball Final – Guilford 69, Maine-Farmington 41

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jonny Rice (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford/Washington and Lee Univ.) posted his first double-double in his first game at Guilford College in the Quakers’ Saturday evening victory over the University of Maine-Farmington, 69-41.

The Quakers pulled out to an early 23-8 lead over the Beavers, making nine of their first fourteen shots. After being tied, 4-4, 3:34 into the period, the Quakers amassed a 29-6 run to widen the lead. Guilford finished the first half with a commanding rebounding advantage, 24-10, while shooting 42.9% from the field and holding Maine-Farmington to just 6-of-27 shooting (28.6%).

Guilford held form in the second half, widening their rebounding to finish the game with a 28-rebound lead, 54-26. The Quakers used 21 offensive rebounds to produce 19 second chance points.

Rice finished the contest with 15 points and 10 rebounds on 7-of-9 shooting after starting the first half with eight points and six rebounds while shooting 4-of-6 from the field. Trever Hyatt was the remaining Quaker in double-figure scoring, finishing with 11 points.

Uriah Forest-Bulley was the lone Beaver in double-figure scoring, finishing the contest with 12 points.

The Quakers dominated the Beavers in the paint, holding the advantage, 34-16. Guilford also dominated bench scoring, 30-16. The Quakers turned 12 Beaver turnovers into 16 points while the Beavers produced nine points out of 14 Quaker miscues.

The Quakers advance to the championship game of the Guilford College Invitational tomorrow, hosting William Peace University at 6 p.m. inside Ragan-Brown Field House.
