GC Pride Men’s Basketball Run Past Warren Wilson In Regular Season Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s basketball team hosted the Owls of Warren Wilson on Sunday afternoon to open their season. Warren Wilson ran out to an early lead, but the Pride was able to rebound winning 78-54.

Warren Wilson jumped out to an early eleven point lead at 17-6 seven minutes into the first half. However, Greensboro College responded with a 12-0 to take the lead at 18-17 with 10:12 showing to play in the period. Raheem Martin got the run started for Greensboro with a three ball from the top of the key before Parris Scales put the Pride in front.

Greensboro College was then able to extend the lead out to nine points at 29-20 before Edric Roberts connected from long range to send the Pride into the break with a 32-20 lead.

After the intermission the intermission period, Greensboro College was able to pull away taking their largest lead at 65-34 with just over nine minutes of play. As the game came to a close, Greensboro College turned up the defensive pressure to come away with the 78-54 victory.

“I am proud of getting our first win of the season under our belts as a team,” said Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski. “We played really hard for the majority of the game, but we have a lot of areas that we need to improve on.”

The Pride held the Owls to just 28 percent shooting in the game while they connected on 48 percent of their own shots. Greensboro College also held a 41-38 advantage in the rebound category.

Parris Scales had a game high 16 points on 7-12 shooting. His Pride teammates Devan Gregory and Simeon Howard also contributed double digit points with 13 and 12 respectively. Raheem Martin tallied nine points to go along with a team high eight rebounds.

With the win, the Greensboro College men’s basketball team opens their season with a 1-0 record. Greensboro College will be back in action on Wednesday night when they welcome cross town rival Guilford College to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court. The first tip is set for 7:00 PM.
