Scooter accident takes down Daniel Downing(Northern Guilford) and safety is safe, but banged up

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A North Carolina walk-on football player suffered minor injuries in a campus traffic accident.

Team spokesman Kevin Best says safety Daniel Downing was driving a scooter Wednesday morning and struck a vehicle that had stopped ahead of him at a crosswalk. Best says Downing was treated at UNC Hospitals and released.

Best says the sophomore from Greensboro was wearing a helmet.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Randy Young says Downing was cited for failure to reduce speed.
