Scooter accident takes down Daniel Downing(Northern Guilford) and safety is safe, but banged up

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A North Carolina walk-on football player suffered minor injuries in a campus traffic accident.

Team spokesman Kevin Best says safety Daniel Downing was driving a scooter Wednesday morning and struck a vehicle that had stopped ahead of him at a crosswalk. Best says Downing was treated at UNC Hospitals and released.

Best says the sophomore from Greensboro was wearing a helmet.
(That might have been Daniel Downing’s saving grace, right there.)

Department of Public Safety spokesman Randy Young says Downing was cited for failure to reduce speed.

First saw this, this morning at the News and Record on-line and then I rushed over to the Triangle sports hospital(WRALSportsFan.com) to get more details and great to hear “Double D” Daniel Downing is OK….Daniel helped quarterback the Northern Guilford Nighthawks to NCHSAA 3-AA State Titles in 2010 and 2011 and he was named the GreensboroSports.com Guilford County High School Football Player of the Year for his play in the 2010 season…
