GC Women’s Swimming Tops Guilford And Ferrum While Men Fall To Panthers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College Pride swim teams returned to the pool on Saturday afternoon as they hosted both Guilford College and Ferrum College. On the women’s side of the action the Pride finished the meet with a 2-0 mark by defeating Guilford College 102-67 and Ferrum College 98-82 while the men fell to Ferrum 107-52.

The Pride women recorded eight first place finished including a one two finish in both the 50 yard freestyle event and the 500 free.

Erin Gard got the Pride women going early in the third race of meet when she took the top spot in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:52. Two women’s events later, Greensboro College’s Regina Robertson finished just two seconds over her teammate Madison Peregoy in the 50 free coming in with a time of 26.11.

Once the Greensboro women were able to build a lead on both squads Jurnee Dutremble picked up individual victories in the 100 yard free style and 100 yard backstroke. In the final event of the day for the women, Greensboro College’s 400 relay team of Jurnee Dutremble, Erin Gard, Madison Peregoy, and Regina Robertson took top points in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:05.03.

Julia Lentini also recorded two top five finishes in the meet. Lentini finished if fifth place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:41.14 while finish third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:16.18.

On the men’s side of the action Greg Rich, Zackery Sarka, and Isacc Burt each recorded first place finishes. Rich picked up the first win of the day in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.66 before Burt picked up his win in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.80. Towards the end of the meet Saraka earned top points in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:11.84.

In the second men’s event of the day, Rich also broke the Greensboro College men’s swimming record in the 200 yard freestyle as an exhibition with a time of 1:57.62.

Eddie Kirby also competed in the meet for Greensboro recording a pair of second place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle.

“I am very pleased with the way our team is performing at this point of the season,” said Pride Head Swimming Coach Katie McNerney. “Today we had some personal bests, and I am really looking forward to improving on those with our upcoming training sessions.”

With the pair of victories for the Pride women, they move their overall record to 4-3 on the season with the men falling to 1-1. The Greensboro College swim teams will return to the pool on January 17th when they travel to Emmanuel College. The meet is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
