High School Football Saturday morning rewind:What do you do, when you just have two??

We are down to just two teams left/remaining in the post-season and how do you do, or what do you do when you only have two??

You do the same thing you always do, you pull like crazy for both of these teams….Northern Guilford has been here before, several times and Southern Guilford was in Round Three a couple years back, when they had that backfield combo of Malik Moseley and Reggie Gallaspy and Southern made the trip out to Northern for the Friday night playoff game, since they were both at the 3-AA level in 2012 and in that game, Southern scored first on a TD by Moseley and Southern scored last on a TD by Gallaspy, but Northern posted right around 50 points in between those two Storm tallies and NG went on to win their third consecutive NCHSAA 3-AA Title that season, the senior run for RB T.J. Logan….

Now we fast forward two years later and Northern is still in the playoffs and Southern is back where they feel like they belong….Round Three is where you really start to separate the wheat from the chaff and in Round Three back in 2012, the game was on the schedule the week before Thanksgiving, so this year in Round Three, in the 3-A ranks this time, Southern Guilford has found themselves at home for the holidays and they don’t have to go to Northern this time around….

This year Northern(12-1) will go to Hillsborough Orange(12-1) and Southern(13-0) will be hosting Eastern Wayne(11-2)….

One follow-up on last night’s game with Southern Guilford over Rocky Mount 36-18, the Rocky Mount nickname/mascot was a Gryphon, also known as a Griffin and I had to some more research this morning to get the full word on the Gryphon character from Mr. Webster….Had looked on Wikipedia yesterday, but to no avail and did find out this morning that the Gryphon/Griffin is a bird-looking animal, looking like an eagle(key body parts), but with the tail and legs of a lion…Glad we solved that and had heard that word for years and finally got to the bottom of it this morning….Looks like the combo of an eagle and a lion…

Back on the home front/front porch we saw some real big and good numbers from last night’s games with Reggie Gallaspy hitting the 3,000 yard rushing mark for the season and he added four more touchdowns to his season total, now giving RG 48 TD’s on the year….Reggie had 314 yards for the game, with 102 in the first quarter and 259 yards and the 4 TD’s by halftime…SG scored all of its 36 points in the first two quarters last night and they played pretty much lights-out defense after that…

Rocky Mount got the ball on the opening kickoff of the second half and they drove the ball down inside the SG 20 yard line, but they came away with no points and they ended up taking nearly 8 minutes off of the third quarter clock and worked right into the hands of the SG Storm defense…Two excellent passes by SG Storm QB Nathan Stoner last night, with the first one for a TD to Ron Hunt from 13 yards out and the other one was another pass to Hunt covering around 25 yards that got the ball to the Rocky Mount 4 yard line and set up a touchdown run by Reggie Gallaspy…Nice touch on those passes by #2 Stoner, to #4 Hunt…Gallaspy, Stoner, Hunt, Garrett Blackburn, Amon Harris, Jarrett Mobley and all of those Storm players are having quite a time now, in the playoffs…

C.J Freeman did his thing last night with 231 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks in the ‘Hawks road win at Wilson Fike….Freeman is setting himself up here as a junior, to be one of the premiere runningbacks in the state during his senior upcoming in 2015…Freeman is really doing the job and he is now right at or just beyond the 2,000 yard rushing mark for this season….

Cameron Harris was tight on his tosses last night, as the NG QB threw for 278 yards on just 13 passes with 9 of the 13 on target and most were for big yardage…Tucker Hord picked up 110 yards in receptions for NG on just 3 catches/grabs….Harris ended up throwing for 3 TD’s with one each going to Hord, Mook Reynolds and Tre Marsh…..A very busy numbers night for the Nighthawks…..And oh by the way, Tristen Simmons was good on 6 PAT’s for NG….

Two touchdown passes for Alec Cobb last evening with one going to T.J. Parker and the other going to Tevin Quick….Ragsdale Tigers drop a true heart-breaker at Charlotte Vance, 21-19…Need more numbers on that one and have no numbers yet on High Point Central-Charlotte Catholic, but we are looking…Ragsale had two extra point kicks blocked, and those two points that failed might have been one of the differences in the game….

On High Point Central:QB Jamiel Mack with 147 yards on the ground and two rushing TD’s, but got hurt in the passing department, going 6 of 17 on his passes and throwing two interceptions…….

We hope to have more coming and to answer our opening question, “What do you do when you only have two?”…..You pull like heck for the both of them…….

*****More on Ragsdale-Charlotte Vance last night:
Ragsdale had their first TD was called back for illegal forward pass…Replay showed ball was thrown 1 yard behind line of scrimmage…..Ragsdale had two extra point kicks and a FG blocked….

Passing – 32-50 350 yards 2 TD and 2 INT.(Alec Cobb)
Rushing – 52 yards(Brandon Harris)

Ragsdale defense caused four turnovers…..*****
