Game Report: Southwest at Northeast Boys Basketball

The Cowboys hit the road tonight to square off against the Rams of Northeast Guilford High School. The Cowboys are fresh off their second consecutive blow out victory and the Rams last played before Thanksgiving where they pulled off tight victory over Western Guilford. The Cowboys were aiming to stay unbeaten on the early season while the Rams were hoping to start a winning streak of their own. Tonight turned out to be quite the ugly affair. Both teams weren’t just icy from the field. They were frozen.

Despite all of that the Cowboys were able to jump out to a 10-2 lead by the 3:24 mark. But the Rams kept fighting and made it 15-10 by the close of the quarter.

The second frame was still hideous with poor defense and even worse shooting. The Cowboys slowly pulled away to as many as 13, but the ugly first half ended at 33-19 in favor of the visitors.

Unfortunately, the second half started off even worse for both sides. Neither team could buy a basket in the third quarter. Each team missed open looks and played even worse defense. Luckily for both sides neither team could find the bottom of the net. The third quarter ended with the Cowboys up 41-26.

In the final quarter the Cowboys finally put it all together as their pressure defense smothered the Rams as the lead ballooned to the final tally of 64-34.

The Rams were led by Brandon Lambeth with 7. The Cowboys were led by KJ Langley with 23, 3 Stls, 2 Asts, and Kam Langley with 15, 8 Rebs, 5 Asts, 6 Stls, and 2 Chrgs.
