HPU’s Nyepon Named to the NSCAA All-South Region Soccer Team

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Mamadee Nyepon has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region team it was announced Wednesday.

“It’s a really great honor for Mamadee to make all-region,” HPU head coach Dustin Fonder said of Nyepon’s distinction. “It’s an elite group of players and he belongs in that group. He’s had a wonderful career here leaving as the all-time leading scorer and a three-time all-region player.”

Nyepon, who earned third-team NSCAA All-Region honors, was named first-team All-Big South and a member of the Big South All-Tournament team in 2014. He led HPU with 26 points on a conference-best 12 goals and two assists. Nyepon had multi-goal games against Incarnate Word, Longwood and Winthrop and scored two game winners. The forward leaves HPU as the program’s all-time leader in career goals scored with 41. Nyepon was also named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State team three times in his career.

“His success will help the program in the future with recruiting,” Fonder continued. “When we go after the next striker we can say we’ve had success with Mamadee and Karo Okiomah being an All-American to show this program is known for scoring goals and producing good forwards, which will help us attract the next young star.”

The Greensboro native earned NSCAA All-Region recognition for the third time in his career. He is just the second men’s soccer player at HPU to be a three-time All-Region honoree joining Okiomah (2009-11). It is the 15th time a Panther has been named to the All-Region team.
