Wild night in Wildcat Country as both Eastern Guilford teams win on a “Barn Burner” of a night and we were watching the games courtside with MJ, Reggie and Coach Wes Miller

The Eastern Guilford Wildcat girls/women stop Southwest Guilford 72-59 tonight in a very tight game and the
EG boys/men win 77-76 over the Southwest Guilford Cowboys handing the Cowboys just their third loss of the 2014/2015 season and the Wildcats take their record to (10-2) on the season, in what turned out to be a “Barn Burner” down in ‘Wildcat Country’ this evening…..EG women now (8-3)/Cowgirls(6-6) and EG Wildcat men go to (10-2), while the Cowboys drop overall to (11-3)……

Was watching both games tonight and this was a productive evening for the EG Wildcats, as both teams claimed victories and we were courtside watching/taking in the game with MJ, Reggie and UNCG men’s coach Wes Miller….

Coach Miller has his eyes on Quayson Williams based on what I was seeing and Quayson responded with a very solid night, connecting for 29 points, while leading his Wildcat team to the win….EG lead the entire game and the ‘Cats took a six-point lead into halftime, up 40-34….The lead shrunk to four points as the 3rd period came to a close with the ‘Cats clinging to a 60-56 advantage….By game’s end the one-point finish was about all the fans could take….They had been on the edge of their seats all night long and the climax had reached a fever-pitch and the young men from Eastern had grabbed the hard-fought win….

Up there in the good seats near courtside taking all of this in along with MJ/Mr. Jenkins/Milton Jenkins, Reggie/Reggie Perkins Sr., who could have passed for Reggie Miller a few years back, at least his outside shot could have and we had UNCG coach Wes Miller sitting right down below us…..

Kaymon Mitchell fouled out late for SWG and that did not the Cowboys chances, but Quayson Williams was getting into the lane all night long and when Q was not coming through, Khyree Lundy, Montez Venable and Terrell Pickett were taking care of the slack….

You won’t find much slack on Quayson Williams’ line this season, he positioning himself for Player of the Year in Guilford County among the public school players and I know for a fact that is his goal, because Williams does not shoot for anything less and Coach Joe Spinks hopes his team will take time to grab the Mid-State 3-A Title and some key playoff wins along the way with Williams and the ‘Cats going all out and all in…

Coach Kris Britton is pushing her girls/women in the same direction…Don’t settle for anything less than the Mid-State 3-A Crown will be Coach B’s charge to her troops/’Cats….

Callie Patterson and Leeyasia Williamson, along with Ariel Shears sure made it a point to drive home the key point of starting 2015 with a Wildcat and believes they can keep this up as they enter Mid-State 3-A play in full force next week…The Cats’ have already faced Conference Encounters, but they hit the league play in full stride next Tuesday……

The Eastern women should be expected to contend for the title and based on what we saw tonight, this might just be the “Year of the Cat” x’s two….Eastern just needs to bear down and keep their goals high and then the rest should take care of itself….

We will have more on the teams in the morning with interviews coming your way from both EG coaches, Britton and Spinks……

It was a great night for basketball and you can be sure that the Southwest teams will be back and tonight when the Cowgirls lost Lashonda Monk to fouls and the Cowboys lost Kaymon Mitchell to foul trouble, you knew that SWG was in trouble….

Lots of good basketball inside that EG Gym and it looked like MJ, Reggie and Coach Miller were pleased with what they were watching tonight as the ‘Cats warmed up and then the night belonged to Eastern in the end…..It was much like the old-fashioned “Barn-Burner” close games we used to see all the time back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s along tobacco road….

Women’s numbers with 1st Q:Southwest Guilford 15, Eastern Guilford 13….Halftime:Southwest Guilford 33, Eastern Guilford 30….End of 3rd Q:Eastern Guilford 50, Southwest Guilford 45…Final:Eastern Guilford 72, Southwest Guilford 59….
