GC Pride Men Sink Covenant 82-51

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team won their first game of the new year on Saturday afternoon. The Pride welcomed the Scots of Covenant College to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court, and came away with the 82-51 victory.

The Pride men took control of the game from the opening tip. Greensboro kept the Scots off the scoreboard for the first seven minutes of play running out to a 19-0 lead. During the opening run, Greensboro College’s Simeon Howard accounted for twelve of his seventeen first half points while David Lehman chipped in four shots from the charity stripe.

Later in the half with the score 34-19, the Pride used an 18-2 run to extend their lead out to 52-21 heading into the break. Will Griffin, Raheem Martin, and Edric Roberts each recorded at least one basket during the run.

After the half time break, Greensboro College took their largest lead of the game at 64-28 before going on to win by the 82-51 mark.

“The win tonight was a great team effort,” Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game. “We played very well on both ends of the court, and we need to build on this performance as we move forward.”

Simeon Howard poured in a game high twenty points in the contest while Parris Scales was the only other player to record double figures with ten points.

Once again, Greensboro College found themselves not settling for the first open shot from the floor but found the second option and recorded 25 assists on 33 made baskets. Devan Gregory led the Pride with five assists while Hamilton Hawkins, Howard, Christopher Corbin, and Joseph Gatling each recorded three assists.

Greensboro also held a large 46-33 advantage on the boards.

With the win, the Pride men improve their overall record to 9-5 on the season while moving to 2-1 is USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride men will continue conference play on Friday night on the road at Piedmont College. The Pride and Lions will get underway at 5:30 PM.
