HPU MBB Game At Coastal Selected For ESPNU Telecast

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s basketball team’s game at Big South rival Coastal Carolina will air live on ESPNU on Friday, February 6.

The contest between the Panthers and Chanticleers will tip at 9 p.m. inside the HTC Center in Conway, S.C. The game pits the current top-2 teams in the Big South, as Coastal Carolina sits at 14-3 (5-0 Big South), while HPU is 13-4 (4-1 Big South).

Coastal Carolina won the first game between the two teams this season inside the Millis Center on Dec. 31.

HPU is off to its best overall start (13-4) in 21 years and has won seven of its last eight games. The Panthers’ 4-1 league start is the program’s best since the 2006-07 campaign. High Point feature pre-season Big South Player of the Year John Brown, who is averaging a team-best 19.3 points per game and ranks in the top-50 nationally in scoring, field goals made (124) and field goal percentage (.559) this season.

The game at Coastal will be HPU’s sixth appearance on the ESPN Family of Networks this season. The Panthers won at Hawai’i, 62-54, on Nov. 18 in a game that aired on ESPN2 as part of ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The Panthers also appeared on ESPNU in a game at Ohio State on Dec. 10. HPU will play Longwood (Jan. 19), Liberty (Jan. 29) and Radford (Feb. 3) on ESPN3 before playing at Coastal on ESPNU. The Panthers’ game at UNC Asheville on Feb. 26 is also a candidate to be picked up by ESPNU.

High Point returns to action against Longwood on Monday at 7 p.m. inside the Millis Center in the team’s first ESPN3 appearance of the season.
