Game Report: Boys basketball – Southwest Guilford vs Ragsdale (Both Team Reports)

Southwest Report

The Cowboys of Southwest hit the road to face off against their rivals the Tigers of Ragsdale. Following a week off due to exams starting, both teams were eager to hit the game floor. The Cowboys are coming off a convincing victory over Glenn, while the Tigers are trying to rebound following a lopsided loss to Northwest. Who would have the upper hand in this heated rivalry? The Cowboys have controlled this rivalry in recent history, winners of 6 straight, and 8 of the last 9.

The Cowboys came out and jumped ahead 5-0, but a rivalry game will always be a game of runs. With that said the Tigers used their home crowd’s energy to spur them to tie it at 5 in a blink. The teams traded baskets with SW having the lead until three-pointer bounced in to give the Tigers be 13-11 with just over a minute remaining in the frame. The first quarter ended with Ragsdale holding the lead 14-13.

The second-quarter is when the Cowboys asserted themselves and push the lead to double digits and maintained The margin going into the half up 33-23. But the Tigers wouldn’t let their rivals run away with it as they scrapped and clogged to stay in it.

The third frame closed at 52–39.

The final quarter was never in doubt but Ragsdale kept it reasonable thanks to abysmal free throw shooting by the Cowboys. With that the game closed at 69–60 in favor of the Cowboys.

The Tigers were led by Austin Love with 15. Southwest was paced by Orlando Smith with 14, 3 Stls, 2 Rebs, and KJ Langley with 14, 5 Asts, and Kaymon Mitchell with 13, 6 Rebs. Southwest also had Ambrose Jackson with 10, 2 Rebs, 2 Blks, and Kam Langley with 10, 6 Stls, 4 Asts, and 3 Rebs.

Southwest moves to 3-0 in Conference play.


Ragsdale Report
Jamestown, NC – –

Tonight the Ragsdale Tigers welcomed the SW Guilford Cowboys for the first edition of this season’s rivalry matchup.

The opening frame saw the Cowboys jump out to an early lead, but the Tigers were able to make a late-quarter push to take a one point lead. However, the Cowboys would then turn up the pressure and force Ragsdale into numerous turnovers which earned SW Guilford a 10 point lead into the halftime break. The second half was much more even, but the Tigers were never able to get the deficit any lower than seven points.

The Tigers were led by Seniors Austin Love (15 points) and TJ Parker (13 points). KJ Langley and Orlando Smith both led the Cowboys with 14 points each on the night.

Ragsdale drops to 10 – 6 overall and 1 – 2 in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference. SW Guilford improves to 13 – 4 overall, 3 – 0 in conference play.
