Track and Field: Elon’s Dixon Shines on Day One at Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Freshman Emily Dixon winning the pentathlon title highlighted the Elon University women’s track and field team’s opening day at the Liberty Open on Friday afternoon, Jan. 16, inside the Tolsma Indoor Track facility.

Day One Results

Dixon scored 3,435 points in the pentathlon, the second-best indoor mark all-time in school history. The Bath, United Kingdom, native earned a spot for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships after winning three out of the five multi-events in the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles, high jump and shot put.

Fellow rookie Lydia Laws finished in the top-five of the pentathlon with 2,909 points. Laws won the long jump event with a mark of 17’ 3.5” (5.27m). Dixon was the runner-up with a mark of 17’ 2.75” (5.25m).

In the weight throw, sophomore Briana O’Grady was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event with a heave of 47’ 1” (14.35m), good for fourth overall. Senior Jennifer Jarvis was ninth with a toss of 38’ 11” (11.86m).

The meet concludes tomorrow with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
