ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team returns to the JDL Fast Track complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Hilton Garden Invitational this weekend, Jan. 30-31. The meet begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, with the women’s 60-meter hurdles prelims.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, Jan. 23-24, the Phoenix competed at the Hokie Invitational. Elon had a few members of its distance team in action for the first time since coming off its cross country campaign. Sophomore Kimberly Johansen finished fifth in the 1,000-meter race, setting a new personal-best time of 2:53.99 and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) indoor championships.
Fellow sophomore Elyse Bierut also set a personal-record in the 3,000-meter run and was fifth overall in the race. Bierut clocked in a time of 9:54.49, the second-fastest time on the program’s all-time performance list and also qualified for the ECACs. Senior Jenny Gallagher had the fourth-fastest time in school history in the race at 9:56.39 while another sophomore, Shelby Cuddeback, joined them in the top-five in school history with her time of 10:03.19.
Tereza Novotna also qualified for the ECACs with her time of 4:58.46 in the one-mile run.
Back In Action
Elon will welcome back a number of its athletes this week that had been away for study abroad. Expected to make their indoor season debut this weekend for the maroon and gold are juniors Sydney Griffin, Simone Jackson and Jennifer Pash. The Phoenix will also have a few more of its distance runners seeing their first action of the indoor track season.
The Phoenix will trek to Johnson City, Tenn., next weekend, Feb. 6-7, and compete at the East Tennessee State Track and Field Invite.
