College Men’s Indoor Track and Field News – 4×400 Meter Relay Team Breaks School Record at Hilton Garden Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Guilford College’s 4×400 meter relay team broke a nearly four-year school record Saturday afternoon in day two of the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Schools from all NCAA Divisions, including Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) members, participated in the events.

Johnny Sumner, Amaris Clay, Brandon Rothfuss, and Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C/R.J. Reynolds) ran the 4×400 meter relay in 3:30.21 to break the school’s record by 1.98 seconds, set on February 25, 2011 at the ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Quakers placed very close to their fellow ODAC competitors, finishing just .05 seconds behind Eastern Mennonite University and .15 seconds behind Washington and Lee University, who placed one and two spots ahead of the Quakers respectively.

Andris Goncarovs ran the best mile run time of the season at 4:33.55, the fourth best ODAC time in the race.

Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C/Reagan) paced the Quakers in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.60, the second-best ODAC time in the race and the third best Division III finish.

The Quakers return to action next Sunday (2/8) at the Vince Brown Invitational at Christopher Newport University.
