GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s 800-yard freestyle team placed sixth in the second day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The team of Isabel Gutierrez, Nina Troy, Caitlin Young and Morgan McKinnon recorded the best finish by a Quakers’ relay in three seasons and helped boost the Guilford’s point total to 84.
Washington and Lee University expanded on its two-point lead over Emory & Henry College after Friday’s opening day. The Generals enter Sunday’s final events with 617 points, followed by Emory & Henry (476) and third-place Randolph-Macon College (363). Guilford is in ninth place, eight points behind Hollins University.
The Quakers’ 800 freestyle finished in nine minutes, 44.81 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in school history. It was the only Guilford entry to qualify for an A final Saturday night. Guilford’s 200 medley relay team missed the eighth spot in the final by a little over a second with a season-best time of 2:12.92 as Gutierrez, McKinnon, Troy and Young each turned in personal-best times in their respective legs of the race.
Gutierrez missed out on a berth in the 100-yard breaststroke by 0.11 second with a time of 1:17.39. Her time in the 400 individual medley (5:40.00) placed 19th in the preliminaries and fifth in school history.
The championships conclude Sunday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
