Elon Track and Field: Personal-Records Pace Day Two at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Elon University women’s track and field team concluded its final day at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 21, inside the Rector Field House.

“I was very pleased with performances today,” said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Mark Elliston. “I think we are finally starting to get back and reach what we are capable of. Now we get to prepare for the (Eastern College Athletic Conference) championships and the outdoor season.”

Tereza Novotna ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 3,000-meters with her time of 9:39.54, winning the event. Senior Jenny Gallagher was second overall in the race with her time of 10:18.63.

In the 400-meters, Jen Esposito established a new personal-record in the race after clocking a time of 56.00, finishing second overall. Carrie Abraham was fourth overall in the long jump with a leap of 18’ 1.5” (5.52m).

Megan Kirschling had a fifth-place standing in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’ 6” (1.68m). The Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team of Jennifer Pash, Lydia Laws, Emily Dixon and Esposito had a fifth-place standing with a time of 3:56.79

Select members of the Phoenix will compete at the ECAC Indoor Championship meet in Boston on March 5-7.
