Wilson Breaks Shot Put Record To Lead HPU Men’s Track At Kent Taylor Invite

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the second time in as many weeks, junior thrower Jim Wilson has conquered his own High Point University school record in the shot put.

After establishing a new high mark of 14.25m (46-9) at last week’s HPU Team Challenge at JDL, Wilson reached 14.38m (47-2.25) Saturday at the Kent Taylor Invite to once again surpass his own mark.

Wilson’s fourth-place finish in the shot led the Panthers in the one-day event in Chapel Hill, N.C.

“It was great to see Jim have another school record throw today,” associate head coach Eric Dudley said. “He progressed nicely through the series to build up to his final throw where he set the record.”

In HPU’s only other event on the day, junior Austin Miller finished t-1st in the pole vault to capture his fifth vault title of the season. Miller posted a mark of 4.70m (15-5). Freshman Todd Uckermark placed third with a vault of 4.35m (14-3.25) while junior Harris Coley matched Uckermark at 4.35m. Sophomore Isaiah Henderson was fifth with a vault of 4.15m (13-7.25).

The Panthers will now prepare for the 2015 Big South Indoor Championships Thursday and Friday (Feb. 26-27) at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
