College Men’s Track and Field Results – Guilford’s Cason Takes 5th in Steeplechase at Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) scored a top-five finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Wake Forest Open Friday afternoon. Cason and teammate Andris Goncarovs competed against schools from all three NCAA divisions, including fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference member Virginia Wesleyan College.

Cason ran the seventh-fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase time in program history, earning a fifth place finish overall in the race with a time of 9:28.46. All top-five finishers in the race were not from Division I schools, but the senior proved victorious over runners from five different Division I institutions.

Goncarovs (15:13.12) earned a 12th place finish in the 5,000 meter run, racing in the toughest heat. Goncarovs ran the fourth-fastest non-Division I time in the race and top time out of six Division III runners participating.

The rest of the Quakers take to the track tomorrow, running in the Powersox Invitational at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
